Delivery of 51 sheets to a family which is in a land dispute, at Gihogazi

Thursday, March 09, 2023, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Cyriaque Nshimirimana, accompanied by some parliamentarians, joined the population of Ramba village, Gihogazi zone and commune, in Karusi province, during the unclogging of potholes on the road linking Bugenyuzi and Gihogazi communes.

Addressing the participants in this work, Honourable Nshimirimana appreciated the massive participation of the population of this locality in the community development activities and encouraged them to move forward.

The Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate called on the population of Karusi to continue to preserve peace and security, the basis of sustainable development. He asked them to adopt the birth control policy, do various jobs to develop, and encourage their children to study.

He called on the village notables to avoid corruption and carry out their mission of mediation between the parties in conflict.

As part of the contribution to the constructive resolution of disputes and social cohesion, Honourable Cyriaque Nshimirimana, then proceeded, on behalf of the Senate, to the delivery of 51 sheets which were demanded by one of the two parties who were in land dispute, at the chief-town of Gihogazi commune, to hand over to the other party in order to get back the land property they had ceded.

He explained to the inhabitants of this locality that the Senate wanted to encourage the two parties who decided to peacefully resolve a conflict between them, and who just committed to a peaceful neighbourhood. He called on them to mimic this good example.

The origin of this conflict was the accusation from one of the parties to the other, of the theft of 51 sheets which covered a house, during the crisis of 1994. The party of the accused had been obliged to give a part of his land property to pay for these sheets.

Reconciliation between these two parties was ensured by the Special Committee in the Senate, responsible for following up the recommendations made by this institution, and collecting the population grievances.
