Kirundo local representatives reminded to comply with the law

On Friday March 10, 2023, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye, met with local representatives from Kirundo province to remind them that they must refer to the law in exercising their daily function.

Honourable Dénise Ndadaye challenged communal administrators to fight against corruption and reminded them that they do not have the right to impose a fine exceeding fifty thousand Burundian francs (50,000 FBu), as the law stipulates.

She asked the local authorities to listen and respond to the grievances of the population, to serve as a model and to be able to communicate the achievements in progress.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Senate invited the members of the communal councils to closely follow the work of the administrators in order to verify that the latter take into account the wishes of the electorate. “Each administrative authority is indebted to the population,” she insisted.

In order to properly plan the programme budget, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye recalled that the communal administrator must know how to plan, organize, enforce the law, ensure coordination and control.

During their speeches, the members of the communal councils particularly wanted their development projects to always be taken into consideration when they are presented to the hierarchical authority.
