Return of the First Deputy-Speaker of the Senate from Côte d’Ivoire

This afternoon of October 13, 2024, the First Deputy-Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Denise Ndadaye arrived at Melchior Ndadaye airport upon returning from a working mission to Côte d’Ivoire, in Yamoussoukro, where she participated in the activities of the symposium of the Senates of Africa and the opening of the 2^nd ordinary session of the year 2024 of the Senate of the Côte d’Ivoire Republic. The work of this symposium focused on the theme: “Idea of ​​Senate and senatorial experiences in Africa.”

Upon her arrival, the First Deputy-Speaker of the Senate said that the participants in this symposium had the opportunity to discuss issues of common interest to their Chambers, and a framework for exchanges and reflections on their experiences in the organization and functioning of senatorial institutions which aims to enable them to set up an Association of African Senates, with a view to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation.

During this symposium, the speakers explained the Senates functions and missions as well as its functioning in the bicameral system such as the representation of the people, the control of government action, consolidation as well as ensuring the consideration of the sociological components of the State and restoring equality in countries affected by major ethnic, linguistic, cultural or regional imbalances.

After seeing the importance of the Africa Senates, they set up an Association of Africa Senates with laws that govern it and appointed Mrs. Kandia KAMISSOKO Camara, currently Senate Speaker of Côte d’Ivoire, as President of this Association.

On the sidelines of this meeting, the First Deputy-Speaker of the Senate met with the Senate Speaker of Algeria. Their meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
