The Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, took part in the opening of the International Conference of Friendly Cities, which was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, in China. The theme of this conference was: Common Prosperity, Shared Future.
In his speech, Right Honourable Sinzohagera highlighted the common characteristics which unite Burundi and the province of Yunnan, with an emphasis on social cohesion and national unity. He highlighted Burundi’s rapid development dynamics, particularly the growth of its urban centres, which require the integration of modern and adapted technologies. Burundi can thus draw inspiration from the remarkable advances of the Chinese province, both technologically and economically.
The Senate Speaker also discussed Burundi’s recent territorial division measure, which aims to strengthen the decentralization of local authorities and promote the development of the provinces. In this regard, he invited the President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries to consider the twinning of some provinces of China with the five current provinces of Burundi. He also suggested a partnership project with the Senate of Burundi, in order to ensure the promotion of social cohesion in the country.
