On Thursday, April 17, 2025, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, returned from a work mission to Seoul, South Korea.
Upon his arrival at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, he announced that he had participated in the opening of the inter-parliamentary conference, organized under the theme: “Building Global Unity: Strengthening Shared Peace and Prosperity through Inter-parliamentary Dialogue.” He also announced that he had participated in the award ceremonies for the SUNHAK PEACE PRIZE, which was held for the 6th edition. The prize was awarded to three leaders who have worked to strengthen peace and tranquillity among peoples of all nations. The Right Honourable Sinzohagera explained that he also participated in the opening proceedings of the 2025 International Conference, where representatives from their respective countries all decided to focus on preserving peace and analyzing the conflicts which threaten mankind worldwide, including war, disease, famine, climate change, and many others.
He further noted that he took part in the Conference, which brought together the Parliaments Speakers from around the world, where they discussed about strengthening unity, as well as peacebuilding and development through dialogue.
The Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament revealed that he had the opportunity to share Burundi’s experience with other participants, where he presented the case of Burundians on safeguarding lasting peace and security through dialogue. On the same occasion, he invited economic operators from various countries to invest in Burundi.
The Senate Speaker explained that during the inter-parliamentary proceedings, participants signed a paper from the Seoul 2025 Conference, in which they committed to protecting the environment and strengthening the education sector for the development of their respective countries.
On the sidelines of all these proceedings, he met with members of the Burundians living in South Korea. He called on them to contribute to the development of their native country.
The Right Honourable Senate Speaker finally appealed to the Burundian people to roll up sleeves and tackle the various tasks to develop, following the example of South Korea.
