On Monday, May 12, 2025, in the Kigobe Chamber of Bujumbura City, the Senate took part in the swearing-in ceremonies of seven commissioners of the Independent National Human Rights Commission (CNIDH). They took the oath of office before the President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, and the Parliament in joint session.
Among the seven commissioners were Monsignor Blaise Nyaboho Martin, President of the CNIDH; Gerard Rugemintwaza, Vice-President; and Béatrice Nkurunziza, Secretary.
In their oath, these commissioners of the Independent National Human Rights Commission swore to faithfully fulfill their mandate with complete independence and impartiality, to never be guided by any partisan interest, and to devote themselves entirely to the protection and promotion of human rights in strict compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Burundi, the Charter of National Unity, and other laws.

This event was also attended by the members of the bureaus of both parliament chambers; members of the government; parliamentarians; representatives of the defense and national security forces; civil society; representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps; religious denominations, and others.
