In the year two thousand and twenty-one, on the twenty-fifth day of October, the senators met in the hemicycle of the Senate in Gitega for the 61st plenary session of the sixth legislature to approve the candidates for the Ambassador position.
This session which was chaired by the Right Honorable Senate Speaker, Mr. Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA, was attended by 33 senators and a representative of the Government, namely the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, began as usual, with a prayer at 11:09 am.
Opening the session, the Speaker of the Senate first welcomed the honorable senators and then explained that it was important to review the program that was planned for the two weeks from 18 to 29 October, 2021 in order to add to this date of October 25, the activity for the approval of candidates for the position of Ambassador.
The modified program was adopted unanimously.
Subsequently, the Senate Speaker gave the floor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, who had represented the Government to provide clarification about these appointments.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, in his speech, first thanked the Senators for inviting him and then introduced the candidates for the position of Ambassador.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, two candidates were proposed for this position, namely Ambassador Willy NYAMITWE and Brigadier General Agricole NTIRAMPEBA.
For their approval, Minister Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO presented to the Senators the curricula of each of the two candidates as well as the reasons for their choice.
Since there were no questions under general debate, the senators moved on to the vote. Both candidate ambassadors were unanimously approved by the 39 voters, including 33 Senators present and 6 proxies.
After the approval, the Right Honorable Speaker of the Senate reminded the Senators that there is an activity to be held in Bujumbura on October 26, 2021. He further reported that there will be a plenary session on Wednesday October 27. 2021.
The session ended in a climate of understanding at 11:33 am with a prayer.
