The Senate First Deputy Speaker, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye, along with some women senators, participated in a workshop to strengthen women’s leadership. That workshop was organized by the Association of Women Parliamentarians of Burundi (AFEPABU), in collaboration with UN Women/Burundi. This event was held on September 16, 2024 at the Kings Conference Center, located in Bujumbura City. The discussions focused on the issues and challenges of women’s participation in politics, as well as the implementation of resolution 1325.
In her speech, the Speaker of AFEPABU, Honourable deputy Patricie Nduwimana, called on Burundian women to actively prepare for the 2025 elections and to join political parties in order to elect and be elected.
She also urged the government to increase the number of places reserved for women in decision-making bodies, stressing that they have already proven their ability to assume such responsibilities.
