Under the patronage of His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, President of the Republic of Burundi, this July 1, 2024, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera accompanied by his wife, his Deputy-Speakers Honourable Denise Ndadaye and Fabrice Nkurunziza as well as some senators, took part in the ceremonies commemorating the 62nd anniversary of Burundi’s independence, which took place at the Ingoma Stadium in Gitega, the political capital, under the theme “Economic independence, the basis of national sovereignty”.
These ceremonies began with the laying of wreaths by the presidential couple at Independence Square and continued at Ingoma Stadium with a long parade of defense and security forces.
In his speech, the President of the Republic of Burundi called on all Burundians to tackle progress projects to be financially independent.
Also taking part in these ceremonies were the President of Chad, H.E. Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno; the Speaker of Burundi National Assembly and his wife; the Vice-President of the Republic; the Prime Minister; the Ombudsman; former heads of state and former first ladies; representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Burundi; senior officers of the defense and security forces and many others.
