Under the High Patronage of His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, the 1st Deputy Speaker of the Senate, the Honorable Denise Ndadaye, accompanied by senators and senior female executives of the Senate, participated in the 5th edition of the High Level Forum of Women Leaders. This event, organized by the Office of the First Lady for Development in Burundi (OPDD), was held on October 7, 2024 under the theme: « Investing in early childhood to build solid human capital throughout life ».
In his opening speech, the President of the Republic, HE Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, made an urgent appeal to parents to invest in the education of their children, from birth to adulthood. He also urged Africans to reconsider their educational practices, avoiding exposing young people to obscene images and videos, which are harmful to their development and mental health.
The President stressed the importance of increased vigilance by parents towards their children. He encouraged administrative authorities to raise awareness among families on the need to teach respect and protection of the environment, while promoting exemplary behavior. The inculcation of an entrepreneurial culture and the preparation of children to face life’s challenges were also highlighted.
In addition, the President stressed the importance of raising awareness on family planning and spending quality time with children, telling them stories and songs that nourish their love for the homeland. Finally, he called on men to be actively involved in the education of their children, stressing that each member of society has a role to play in building a better future.
