On Friday August 12, 2022, the Parliament met in congress at the Kigobe Congress palace which hosts the lower chamber of the Parliament, to assess the report on the implementation of the Government’s programme for the 2nd half of 2021-2022 presented by the Prime Minister, General of Police Alain Guillaume Bunyoni, as stipulated in article 168 paragraph 4 of the Constitution of the Republic of Burundi.
According to the General of Police Alain Guillaume Bunyoni, the average rate of achievements of the 15 ministries of the Burundian Government is 90%. The results obtained by these ministries vary between 75%-100% with 5 ministries which have had a score ≥95%. The Ministry of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender was ranked 1st with 100% of its completions and the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research comes in 2nd position with 98.1 %.
Among the concerns expressed by parliamentarians, there was the shortage of sugar, cement and Brarudi brewery products. The Prime Minister replied that this shortage is linked to the galloping demography of the Burundian population while production remains almost static.
Regarding the fuel shortage, the Prime Minister calls on Burundians to remain calm. He invited them to manage wisely the little that is available until the solution is found in a few days. “The governmen* made every effort to do so,” he said. Other concerns were related to the lack of maize hybrid seeds in sufficient quantity, to the potholes that are observed in the different roads, to the farmers who give advances against the supply of inputs-FOMI but who are not served in good time, etc.
