On Monday, 16 September 2024, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza, returned from a working mission to Yerevan, Republic of Armenia, where he participated in the tenth IPU Conference of Young Parliamentarians, held from 12 to 14 September 2024, under the theme: “Avoiding lost generations; preserving quality education and decent employment for young people in all circumstances”.
Upon his arrival at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, he reported that the participants in this conference noticed that wars, pandemics and climate change are among the main obstacles to achieving the goals of quality education and decent employment for young people.
In order to preserve quality education and employment for young people, in a sustainable manner, even in times of crisis, they proposed increasing national budgets allocated to education, training and the socio-economic empowerment programme for young people that also includes refugees and those who are displaced by crises.
He indicated that he spoke, during the sharing of national experiences, of the positive impact of many initiatives of the Burundi Government, such as the Economic Empowerment and Employment Programme for Youth (PAEEJ), the Youth Investment Bank (BIJE), the Burundian Youth Employment Agency (ABEJ), as well as the movement of village cooperatives, throughout the country.
Thus, he welcomed the fact that Burundi has already taken a very encouraging step.
