In the year two thousand and twenty-four, on the seventh day of June, senators gathered in the Senate hemicycle in Gitega for the 194th plenary session of the sixth legislature under the chairmanship of the Right Honourable Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA, Senate Speaker, to proceed:
This session saw the participation of 34 senators and a Government Representative, namely the Minister of Justice, Mrs. Domine BANYANKIMBONA. It began as usual, with a prayer at 10:10 a.m.
Opening the session, the Senate Speaker first welcomed the Honourable senators present and, subsequently, after the adoption of the modified schedule of activities, he welcomed the guest of the day and gave him the floor to present the identification of the proposed candidates.
At the end of the presentation of ethnic, regional and gender identification, the Honourable senators had the opportunity to ask clarifying questions.
A single question related to the selection criteria of the ten candidates appearing on the proposed list attracted the attention of senators. To this question, the Government Representative explained that six candidates among the ten generally come from elections organized in different jurisdictions of the country and the final list is drawn up taking into account the votes obtained as well as the principle of respect for both constitutional and regulatory balances. For the other four, said Domine BANYANKIMBONA, their choice is at the discretion of His Excellency the President of the Republic.
After the clarifications from the Member of the Government, the representatives of the people went directly to the voting stage and the names of the proposed candidates were all approved as indicated by the results below.
