In the year two thousand and twenty-one, on the nineteenth day of April, senators met in the hemicycle of the Senate in Gitega for the 34th plenary session of the sixth legislature to analyze and adopt the program of activities for the period from April 19 to 30, 2021.
The activities of the session were chaired by the First Deputy- Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Spès Caritas NJEBARIKANUYE. That session, which saw the participation of 27 senators, began as usual with a prayer at 11:03 am.
In his opening remarks, the First Deputy-Speaker of the Senate first welcomed the honorable senators and then presented the draft program as follows:
Ø Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 19, 21, 22 and 23, 2021 respectively, committee work and sporting activities are scheduled for Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
Ø Tuesday, 20 April 2021, a meeting of the Bureau was held at 9:00 a.m. as well as that of the Extended Bureau at 10:00 a.m. That same day at 11:00 am, the Honourable senators analyzed and adopted the programme of activities for the period from April 19 to 30, 2021;
Ø Monday26, Tuesday 27, and Friday, 30 April 2021 will be devoted to work in committees as well as sports activities Friday afternoon from 3:00pm;
Ø On Wednesday, 28 April 2021, oral questions with debate are organized for the Minister of Justice all the day long;
Ø Thursday, 29 April 2021 at 9:00 am, there will be the plenary session relating to the Analysis and adoption of the following two bills:
· Bill on the ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the Trade Agreement between the Government of the Burundi Republic and the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea;
· Bill on the ratification by the Burundi Republic of the Agreement on Cooperation in Maritime Transport and Port between the Government of the Burundi Republic and the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
After adopting that program, two communications were mentioned:
The first concerned the International Labour and Workers' Day which will be celebrated on May 01, 2021. The First Deputy Speaker of the Senate announced that the Rt Honourable Speaker of the Senate will celebrate it in Ngozi and he will be accompanied by some members of the Senate administration service. In addition, she invited all Honourable senators to participate massively in that celebration in their respective provinces.
The second and the very last communication concerned Honourable Patricie who had a fatal accident. The First Deputy Speaker of the Senate clarified that in the framework of support, the Honourable senators are called upon to assist her as a sign of togetherness during those hard times.
After those discussions, the session, which took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, ended with a prayer at 11:13 minutes.
