On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, received in audience the President of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVR), Mr. Pierre Claver Ndayicariye, who came to present the progress of the work of the commission in the city Bujumbura.
On behalf of the Executive Board of the TRC, Ambassador Ndayicariye presented to the Senate Speaker the summary of the content of the archives that the TRC is discovering at the level of the secondary schools, the prosecution, the Ministry of Public Service and that of Education.
The President of the TRC explained that in the archives, there are the lists of people who were who were tried and killed on May 6, 1972. There are also lists of vehicles and houses which were seized, as well as bank accounts that were blocked.
“In the field of education, we discover civil servants who were killed or those who were dismissed from the civil service in 1972”, he insisted. Mister Ndayicariye said that he had also come to seek advice on how to conduct the Truth and Reconciliation process.
Ambassador Ndayicariye regretted that in the City of Bujumbura, in the zone Buterere, public or private buildings have been erected on mass graves while others are located under the wastewater treatment plants.
