On 9 January 2025, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza, granted food aid to the population of Kiguhu and Mugondo zones, located in Mpinga-Kayove commune, Rutana province. This aid, mainly consisting of rice, aims to support residents whose crops have been seriously affected by torrential rains.
In his speech, Honourable Nkurunziza expressed his concern about the damage caused by these bad weather conditions. Informed of the situation, he stressed that the Senate of Burundi considered it imperative to provide support to these affected communities.
He also appealed to the Ministry of Solidarity, as well as to the natives of Rutana province, urging them to join forces to help the disaster-stricken population. He encouraged the residents to maintain their courage and keep on working to improve their agricultural production, despite the encountered challenges.
