September 11, 2021On Friday, September 03, 2021, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, flew from Melchior Ndadaye International Airport to Vienna in Austria, to take part in the 5th Conference of Speakers of Parliaments organized by the Austrian Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations.
The central theme is ’Parliament’s involvement in the pursuit of sustainable development and global security’. Other topics t discuss are the revival of economy after the Covid-19 pandemic and the fight against disinformation via online or offline social networks.
That last topic is crucial to Burundi since a bill on the curbing of cybercrime under the initiative of the ministry in charge of the media is under way.
On the sidelines of that Conference, working sessions with the other Parliaments which are represented at those meetings are on the agenda.
