On Thursday, December 22, 2022, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, , returned from a work mission he had carried out in Arusha, in the United Republic of Tanzania, where he was invited to take part in the ceremonies marking the parliamentary opening of the 5th Legislative Assembly of the East African Community (EALA).
Speaking to the press at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, Right Honourable Sinzohagera indicated that the Agenda was centered on two essential points, namely the swearing-in of EALA members and the establishment of the supreme authority of this regional institution.
He said that the Honourable Joseph Ntakarutimana was elected as President of the Chamber of EALA, which is a success for Burundi. He took this opportunity to wish him every success in his new career.
According to the Speaker of the Senate, the election of Honourable Joseph Ntakarutimana marks a new turning point in the concert of nations for Burundi, and took the opportunity to congratulate the Burundian Head of State for his efforts to bring our country to another level and above all to strengthen bilateral relations, but also to create openings for our country. “Burundians should strive not to lose the dividends of this positioning”, he added.
On the sidelines of these ceremonies, Right Honourable Sinzohagera had the opportunity to discuss with the Secretary General of the EAC on a number of subjects, in particular the dynamism of the treaty in relation to the updating of legal texts given that Somalia will also join this Community in the near future.
