{"id":10393,"date":"2024-10-18T15:18:21","date_gmt":"2024-10-18T13:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/senat.bi\/en\/?p=10393"},"modified":"2024-10-18T15:18:21","modified_gmt":"2024-10-18T13:18:21","slug":"closure-of-the-work-of-the-149th-ipu-assembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/senat.bi\/en\/closure-of-the-work-of-the-149th-ipu-assembly\/","title":{"rendered":"Closure of the work of the 149th IPU Assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.senat.bi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/senat2087.jpg\" width=\"377\" height=\"251\" \/>As part of his working visit to Switzerland, the Senate Speaker, together with his delegation, continued the activities on the second and final day, on Thursday, October 17, 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 20px;\">First of all, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera and the Honourable Sp\u00e8s Caritas Njebarikanuye took part in the meeting of the Governing Council of the 149<sup>th<\/sup> IPU Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 20px;\">Several decisions were taken in this meeting; notably the election of 3 nationals from Serbia, Mongolia and Uganda to the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 20px;\">Several reports from different IPU committees were also presented, especially that of the Secretary General on the activities of the IPU, that of the Committee on Middle East Questions, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 20px;\">In addition, the Burundi delegation led by Right Honourable Sinzohagera participated in the General Assembly which closed the work of the 149<sup>th<\/sup> Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 20px;\">In this Assembly, the parliamentarians adopted amendments to certain articles of the IPU statute. They also adopted resolutions, including those proposed by Argentina and France.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 20px;\">Moreover, it should be noted that on the sidelines of the 149<sup>th<\/sup> IPU Assembly, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Sinzohagera, received in audience a delegation from the Belgium Parliament.
