Towards the strengthening of ties of friendship between Burundi and the province of Yunnan

As a prelude to the conference of friendly cities planned in China in Kunming in the province of Yunnan at the instigation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA, in the company of his delegation including His Excellency the Ambassador of Burundi to China, visited, in the afternoon of November 17, 2024, the Yunnan provincial museum. This museum tells the history of Yunnan and its ethnic culture. Yunnan Provincial Museum has more than two hundred thousand exhibits on display with the aim of better understanding the historical characteristics of Yunnan.

After the visit, the Senate Speaker met His Excellency Shi Yugang Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Communist Party for Yunnan Province.

Their exchanges highlighted important similarities between Burundi and the province of Yunnan: both regions have an economy based on agriculture, a geographical positioning allowing them to be strategic players with their neighbouring regions.

To this end, the two personalities underlined the importance of strengthening the ties of friendship between Burundi and the province of Yunnan by exploring modalities for establishing platforms for the exchange of experience on the administrative, educational and social and artistic levels. They also talked about possibilities of twinning the province of Yunnan with a province of Burundi.
