On Saturday, November 30, 2024, during the closing ceremonies of the Torch of Peace Journey, 18th Edition, members of the Senate Bureau joined the Head of State, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, as well as the First Lady, other dignitaries of the nation, including the President of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, the Ombudsman, parliamentarians, members of the Government, as well as many distinguished guests, and a huge crowd of Burundian citizens.
These events took place at Gatwaro stadium, in Kayanza province.
The ceremonies were marked by a festive atmosphere, enhanced by modern and traditional songs and dances showcasing the country, as well as magnificent fireworks.
In his speech to the Burundian people, the Head of State stressed that this torch of peace will be passed down from generation to generation, so that future generations can preserve this hard-won peace. He reaffirmed that this year’s torch carried a message encouraging the Burundian population to vote for leaders able of guiding them towards the realization of the vision of an emerging Burundi by 2040, and developed one by 2060.
