This Monday, April 7, 2025, the Senate Speaker, the Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, along with the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Denise Ndadaye, joined other senior officials of the country and Burundian citizens in ceremonies commemorating the 31st anniversary of the assassination of President Cyprien NTARYAMIRA at Bujumbura City.
These ceremonies began with the laying of a wreath at the Martyrs of Democracy located in Bujumbura City by the Vice-President and his wife.
Following this laying, the ceremonies continued at the Regina Mundi Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Bujumbura with a requiem mass in memory
of the late President Cyprien NTARYAMIRA. In his homily, Archbishop Gervais Banshimiyubusa urged Burundians to uphold the legacy of the late President Cyprien Ntaryamira and discipline in their daily lives. He urged them to fear God and flee from evil, emphasizing that evil does not cure evil, and therefore called on them to demonstrate goodwill and mutual understanding among human beings. Truth is the foundation of development that will lead the country to economic prosperity, he added.
He continued his homily by inviting Burundians to be perfect by following the guidelines outlined and advocated by His Excellency President Cyprien NTARYAMIRA. He also emphasized the need to submit to the Word of God and show love to one another, even in times of difficult trials. Also taking part in these ceremonies were the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, the Ombudsman, former Head of State Sylvestre NTIBANTUNGANYA, and many others.
