On Saturday, October 16, 2021, the Senate Speaker, Right Honorable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, accompanied by some parliamentarians, enhanced with his presence the ceremonies of canonical erection of Saint Jean Chrysostome Catholic Parish of Kabezi, in the province of Bujumbura.
In his speech, the Senate Speaker called on the Catholic Church to keep on supporting the Government with its development projects, particularly in the education field.
He invited the population of Kabezi to buckle down to work so as to increase production, fight against early pregnancies, join cooperatives, come together to accomplish self-development projects, and continue to respect barrier measures against Covid-19.
The Right Honorable Sinzohagera also requested the new Priest of this Parish to be the torch that illuminates the Christians he is responsible for, while Christians are requested to collaborate well with the leaders of this Parish.
The Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament promised this Parish a contribution of 100 cement bags to support the ongoing construction.
In his homily, Mgr Gervais Banshimiyubusa, Archbishop of Bujumbura, who celebrated the mass, focused on the Gospel of Saint Luke, 6: 27-38, and invited the Christians of this Parish to be characterized by love, kindness and prayer for one another instead of hate and mistreatment. Thus, he indicated, they will have followed the model of Saint Jean Chrysostome, and they will be the light of the world. He introduced the new Priest of this parish, Father Sylvère Ntasumbumuyange and requested him to follow the model of Jesus Christ.
These ceremonies were also attended by the Attorney General of the Republic, the Governor of Bujumbura province and the communal administrator of Kabezi.
