The Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, the Senate Speaker, along with his wife, his two Deputy Speakers and senators, took part, on Thursday, July 1, 2021, in the ceremonies marking the 59th anniversary of the independence of Burundi, in Bujumbura City.
These ceremonies, which were enhanced by the presence of the Head of State and his spouse, started with the laying of wreaths by the Presidential Couple at the mausoleum of Prince Louis Rwagasore, the National Independence Hero, on Vugizo hill and the laying of wreaths at the Independence Place.
These festivities were also marked by a long parade of Burundians representing various sectors of activity.
In his speech, the President of the Republic, H.E. Evariste Ndayishimiye, invited everyone to respect Burundian people, law and the country’s territorial integrity.
He was pleased to notice that Burundi is a respectable country, which has its place in the concert of nations, as evidenced by the participation of many foreign delegations in these festivities.
Among the distinguished guests who participated in these ceremonies were the President of Central African Republic, Burundi National Assembly Speaker, the Kenyan Senate Speaker, the Vice-president of the Republic of Burundi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi, the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, the Minister of Qatar State, the EAC Secretary General, the Deputy Minister of Egypt, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Rwanda, the Uganda Special Envoy, a UN Special Envoy, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Djibouti, and many others.
The ceremonies of the 59th anniversary of Independence ended by awarding prizes and decorations to various personalities who have stood out from their colleagues in one way or another in their daily activities and who have shown their patriotic sense.
