On the occasion of Labour and Workers’ Day, May 01, 2023, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye, accompanied by the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza, senators as well as some members of the staff of this Institution, enhanced with her presence the commemoration ceremonies of the International Labour and Workers’ Day in the Town of Bujumbura.
The festivities took place on the ground of the Secondary Technical School (ETS) of Kamenge, and were organized under the theme: “Educated leaders, be the model among those who increase production”.
These ceremonies were essentially marked by a long multicolored parade of workers from the public and private sectors, most of them wearing a loincloth made in Burundi, and some holding the fruits of their labour in their hands. The various dances, among which those of the drummers and many others also embellished the ceremonies.
The First Deputy Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament then presented to the participants the speech of the day which the Head of State, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, addressed to the Burundian population.
Through this speech, the President of the Republic reiterates his call to the entire Burundian population in general and all the leaders in particular, to roll up their sleeves and get down to the various works, to continue to transform the image of Burundi, so that that it should be an emerging country in 2040, and a developed country in 2060.
