The Senate, represented by the two Deputy Speakers of this Institution, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye and Honourable Cyriaque Nshimirimana, Senators and officials of this Upper House of the Parliament, joined the other Institutions of the country in the celebration ceremonies of the International Women’s Day, in Buganda commune of Cibitoke province, on Wednesday March 08, 2023.
These ceremonies were enhanced by the presence of the Vice-President of the Republic, Mr. Prosper Bazombanza.
The theme of this day was: “Committed leadership for innovative digitalization in favour of gender equality”.
It was marked by folk dances, those of drummers and a long parade of women working at the Presidency of the Republic, in the Parliament, in the various ministries, certain banks and associations, Defense and Security Forces, etc.
In his speech, Mr. Prosper Bazombanza indicated that this day is an opportunity to self-evaluate in relation to the implementation of the projects which women have set themselves at the national level in general and in their households, in particular.
He said that the Government has highlighted the digitization of public services, particularly in the execution of the programme budget and reassured that it is used for the interest of Burundian people.
The Vice-President of the Republic asked the population to be up-to-date with New Technologies because they evolve very rapidly.
In order to promote the development of this sector, he indicated that the Government has recommended to the service responsible for the distribution of electricity to distribute it throughout the whole country.
He also invited the population to use the NTIC to have information, to resource themselves intellectually and not to give value to the leaflets which pass there and to avoid whatever should transgress the manners and customs of the country.
Mr. Bazombanza called on women to work in associations in order to develop. He also urged them to participate in the political life of the Nation in order to be part of decision-making bodies, etc.
He ended his speech by advising the administrative authorities to plan, for women, development projects in the field of digitalization by referring to their wishes.
These ceremonies were also attended by the Prime Minister, parliamentarians, the spouses of the Speakers of the two Chambers of the Parliament, ministers, ambassadors and others.
