On Wednesday April 6, 2022, the Speaker of the Senate, Rt Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, joined other high authorities, senior officials of the country and Burundian citizens in the commemoration ceremonies of the 28th anniversary of the assassination of President Cyprien Ntaryamira, in Bujumbura Town.
The ceremonies started with a requiem mass in memory of the late President Cyprien Ntaryamira, which was celebrated at Regina Mundi Cathedral, in the Archdiocese of Bujumbura.
In his homily, the Bishop Anatole Rugerinyange, Vicar General of this Archdiocese, invited Burundians to keep the discipline and legacy of the late President Cyprien Ntaryamira in their daily lives. He also urged them to show the fear of God and love one another by respecting the 10 commandments.
To achieve the discipline advocated by the late President Cyprien Ntaryamira, Bishop Anatole Rugerinyange also indicated that it is necessary to submit to the word of God, to show love to one another, even in hard times.
After this mass, the ceremonies continued at the Martyrs of Democracy Place where the Presidential Couple laid a wreath of flowers at the tomb of the late President Cyprien Ntaryamira.
One after the other, the representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Burundi, the family of the late President Cyprien Ntaryamira, the families of his collaborators, representatives of political parties registered in Burundi and those of civil society also laid wreaths of flowers on the graves of the Martyrs for Democracy.
