On Monday, December 19, 2022, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Cyriaque Nshimirimana met in Gitega, the provincial governors and the members of the communal council bureau of the provinces of Gitega, Muramvya, Karusi and Mwaro, to discuss ”the principles of democratic governance at the local level.”
In his message addressed to the participants, Honourable Nshimirimana indicated that the objective of this workshop organized by the Burundian Senate is to collect the challenges that these leaders encounter during the accomplishment of their missions, so that this Institution proposes solutions relating to the Head of State and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Speaking to the press at the end of this workshop, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament of Burundi explained that the communes are in good shape.
Nevertheless, he said, capacity building for communal elected officials is necessary, for an improvement in service, in order to establish more good governance.
