During this parliamentary recess, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honorable Dénise Ndadaye, accompanied by a senator from Makamba constituency, met, on Thursday November 04, 2021, the local representatives and administrators of Mabanda and Nyanza – Lake communes, Makamba province, in the chief-town of Nyanza-Lac commune.
The objective of that meeting was to discuss with those people representatives on the socio-economic and security situation of those localities.
Honorable Dénise Ndadaye, in her message to the participants, indicated that she carried out that visit to discuss with them and hear the population’s concerns in order to remedy the challenges they face and transmit to the authorized bodies, the ones that would not find immediate solutions.
She called on those local representatives to raise the population’s awareness about buckling down to development work to fight poverty, protect the environment, fight malnutrition by consuming fruits, vegetables and seeds without forgetting to respect the barrier measures against Covid-19.
The First Deputy Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament also called on them to continue to preserve peace and security by strengthening the quadrilogy especially as those two communes are located at the border of the United Republic of Tanzania, to fight against corruption, drunkenness, unwanted pregnancies and cohabitation.
In addition, Honorable Dénise Ndadaye invited young people and women from those localities to come together in associations and develop development projects to present to the Youth Investment Bank (BIJE) and to that of women, to apply for credits in order to accomplish development projects.
She also called on them to prepare to choose leaders of good character, who will be members of the village bodies.
In addition, she asked the population of those communes to buckle down to breeding activities, while respecting the law on the permanent keeping in sheds for domestic animals, to increase the yield of milk, manure, and therefore contribute to the reduction of disputes related to the straying of the latter.
The First Deputy Speaker of the Senate reminded participants in that meeting that a good administrative leader must be responsible, characterized by love of work, regular and punctual at work and someone who keeps professional secrecy.
The participants to the meeting raised concerns; these are notably the tax required for boats, which is the same whereas they are not of the same size and do not give the same yield, some types of fishing nets which are illegal in Burundi, but which would be accepted in Tanzania, the need to set up BIJE focal points to facilitate access, even for those who come far from the headquarters of the latter, the need to reduce the price of selected seeds of maize, complaints against some alcoholic drinks especially karibu, lack of means for field irrigation during the dry season, etc.
Shortly before that meeting, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate joined the population of Mugerama in mixing concrete and broth for the construction of new classrooms at Mugerama III Basic School.
She had also paid a visit to ELAGA center, which mainly deals with patchouli cultivation and has a patchouli distillation plant, to produce essential oil for export abroad.
Shortly after the meeting, she made a guided visit to Kiyembezi Scheppers School located at Kabonga port, as well as the border between Burundi and Tanzania in Gitenga, Nyanza-Lac commune.
Those activities were also attended by the Governor of that province and the administrators of Mabanda and Nyanza-Lac communes.
