On October 26, 2024, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye, graced with her presence the ceremonies to launch the avocado growing season in Burundi. This event was held on the villages of Gatwe, Muyange and Murama, in the commune Nyabihanga of the province Mwaro.
In her speech, Honourable Ndadaye encouraged the participants, mainly members of Nyabihanga avocado growers cooperative, to multiply avocado trees and intensify their production with the ultimate goal of fighting against the rise in market prices. She also stressed the importance of properly maintaining the young avocado plants recently planted.
The First Senate Deputy Speaker stressed the need for the population to respect the laws in force as well as local authorities, in order to ensure the harmonious development of agriculture in the region.
On the sidelines of this event, the Deputy Speaker visited a micro-hydroelectric dam under construction in the village Nyamitore, as well as a rabbit farm on Gatwe village, still in the commune Nyabihanga.
