On August 19, 2024, a delegation of senators led by the Senate Speaker, Right Honorable Emmanuel Sinzohagera visited the Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Power plant located in Ngara commune, Kagera province in the United Republic of Tanzania, to inquire about the current situation of this plant common to three countries including Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania.
After the explanations provided by the managers of this hydroelectric plant, the senators noted that the work is almost finished and member countries are benefiting from electricity and that Burundi is receiving 17 kWh.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Senate, Right Honorable Emmanuel Sinzohagera called on Regideso to resolve the distribution network problem so that Burundi can fully benefit from this Central in the same way as other member countries.
The Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament further recommended to the ministry responsible for energy to negotiate the payment of contributions in local currency rather than in US dollars like Tanzania and Rwanda which pay their contributions in local currency.
This hydroelectric plant produces 80Kw and has 51 employees including 18 Tanzanians, 16 Rwandans and 17 Burundians all appointed taking into account their skills.
