On Tuesday, November 17, 2020, the Senate Speaker, Right Honorable Emmanuel Sinzohagera together with his First Deputy-Speaker, Honorable Spès- Caritas NJEBARIKANUYE, held a meeting for the representatives of the religious denominationsapproved in Burundi, at Iwacu Center Hotel, in the Chief-town of Gitega province, with a view of discussing the role of those confessions in development, the strengthening of peace and security.
Right Honorable Sinzohagera, in his message, indicated that many religious denominations are very involved in development projects to support the efforts of the Government, especially in the fields of education, health and environment protection.
He reminded them that they have a crucial role in teaching the word of God, who has been given first place in Burundi Constitution, but also in the education of their faithful.
At the same time, the Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament provided them pieces of advice notably strengthening the education of the young, promoting health, protecting Burundian mores and customs as well as raising the awareness of the population to buckle down to development activities.
Moreover, the Senate Speaker asked those representatives of Religious Denominations to organize prayer sessions in known and recognized places, to work legally since it is the law that will protect them in everything and everywhere.
Right Honorable Sinzohagera also asked them to banish all forms of divisions being ethnic or regional.
In addition, he urged them not to influence the faith of thefaithful in order to recruit them, and to avoid all kinds of conflicts. In this regard, he called on Adventists to settle their differences for the benefit of their followers.
During the interventions, the participants in that meeting raised questions relating to the plea for the promotion of the Religion course on the school report card and putting back into operation the regulatory body of the religious denominations.
