Return of the Speaker of the Senate from a mission to Kenya

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the Senate Speaker, Right Honorable Emmanuel Sinzohagera arrived at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport from Nairobi, Kenya where he had participated in the 17^th meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of member countries of the East African Community, which was held on May 29, 2024.

The Senate Speaker indicated that this meeting was an opportunity to welcome their counterpart, the Speaker of the Parliament of Somalia , adding that other reports were also processed.

These Speakers adopted the calendar of the Inter-parliamentary games which will take place in Mombasa and they also discussed the financial status report of the member countries of the Community in the payment of contributions given that there are arrears for some countries.

On the sidelines of this meeting, the Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament of Burundi also indicated that they discussed how these Parliaments should contribute to achieving the vision that this Community has set itself.

Among these contributions, the Parliaments will indoctrinate the population on the interest of this Community in order to achieve the dream of the founders of the said Community of making these countries a federation.
