The Senate Speaker, Right Honorable Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA, received in audience, at the Headquarters of that Institution, located in Gitega, the President of the Audit Office, Mr. Elysée NDAYE, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
As it was the first time he comes to the Senate since the beginning of this legislature, Mr. NDAYE congratulated the Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament for his new functions.
He also informed him of the main functions of that Office, notably the analysis of the budget law and the production of an annual report on the execution of the State Budget.
Nonetheless, the president of the Audit Office deplored the fact that for the past four years, there has been no such report.
Mr. NDAYE also said that the law governing the Audit Office is incomplete as long as the latter does not have the right to judge those responsible for embezzlement.
In turn, the Senate Speaker hoped that the members of the Audit Office could help in the development of a bill that could correct that legal vacuum.
In addition, Right Honorable SINZOHAGERA advised the president of the Audit Office to work with the Ministry of Finance so that there is production of the budget performance report, preferably before the adoption of the following budget law.
