On July 13 and 14, 2021, the Senate Speaker, the Right. Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, along with the 2nd Deputy Speaker of this institution, the Honourable Cyriaque Nshimirimana, one senator and the deputies elected in the constituency of Ruyigi, met local representatives and heads of deconcentrated services working in Ruyigi, Bweru, Butezi and Butaganzwa communes, in order to discuss on the socio-economic life of these administrative entities.
In his message to the participants, the Right Honourable Sinzohagera recalled that the recess of July 2021 is an opportunity to organize visits to different constituencies to listen to the population’s grievances.
During this meeting, he advised the administrative authorities to work in strict compliance with the law, to keep administrative secret, to be regular and on time for service and to have confidence from the population.
The Senate Speaker also advised the population to buckle down to development activities and preserve peace as well as security.
The Right Honourable Sinzohagera invited people in vocational occupations, namely teachers, servants of God, lawyers and those working in the medical sector, to fully perform their duties as they cannot be paid proportionally to their efforts made.
Concerning land conflicts which are observed in Ruyigi province, he informed the inhabitants of this locality that these conflicts could be solved with the setting up of a village jurisdictions and he invited them to elect honest people who will constitute the latter.
The Senate Speaker also gave more advice to the population by urging them to buckle down to development activities, to avoid cohabitation, to practice family planning, and to protect the environment.
The Right Honourable Sinzohagera recalled that the Senate has just organized a series of conferences on the events of 1972 in Burundi in order to seek the truth about the genocide committed against the Hutu populations during that period and to allow Burundians to truly reconcile. “These conferences will help us to rebuild Burundi,” he said.
In order to put an end to such events, the Senate 2nd Deputy Speaker advised Burundians to educate their children by teaching them to have love for their neighbor and to avoid making hateful remarks.
During their discussions, the participants asked in particular for the rehabilitation of some road infrastructures, electric current in some localities, the organization of ceremonies of lifting of mourning for all those who were massacred in 1972; the availability of the products of BRARUDI, sugar of SOSUMO and BUCECO cement.
