On Thursday November 25, 2021, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honorable Cyriaque Nshimirimana, met, in the chief-town Ruyigi commune, the heads of communal services, the representatives of Sangwe cooperatives and the chiefs of the villages of Ruyigi commune to jointly assess the functioning of 24 villages’ cooperatives in that commune.
During that meeting, Honorable Cyriaque Nshimirimana, in his message, indicated that he had also come to discuss with those representatives of the population on their role and that of parliamentarians. He called on them to preserve peace and security, the basis of sustainable development, and to continue to buckle down to work in order to development.
After following a brief overview of the achievements of each of those cooperatives, it was noted that some have been successful, others have failed. In that regard, he advised them to correct the errors which are at the origin of those bankruptcies.
Among the challenges that hamper the development of those cooperatives which deal in particular with agro-pastoral activities, are the lack of arable land, the non-compliance with previously planned projects and the embezzlement of funds by some officials of those cooperatives.
