The Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Gervais Ndirakobuca, his two Deputy-speakers, Honourable Générose Ngendanganya and Honourable Clotilde Kampimbare, senators and some Senate officials, met in Ngozi, Butanyerera Province, from September 11 to 12, 2025, for a capacity-building workshop on legislative procedure, control of the government action, the role of senators in decentralization policy, and the ethics and professional conduct of parliamentarians and parliamentary staff.
In his opening address, the Speaker of the Senate, Right Honourable Gervais Ndirakobuca, invited senators to understand the content of the Burundian Constitution to better fulfill their mission. He also emphasized the need for everyone to respect the law.
Following the presentations by various experts, the participants discussed their questions and concerns related to public grievances during the field visits, the Senate’s strategic plan, the rights and responsibilities of senators, and many other topics.
In his closing remarks, the Speaker of the Senate emphasized that the training was of crucial interest and paved the way for research aimed at sharpening knowledge in order to serve the population with courage and kindness. He continued his remarks with a word of thanks to all of the people, from all walks of life, who contributed to the workshop’s success.
Furthermore, the Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament informed the training participants that the workshop’s results are expected immediately, emphasizing that the law is the sole support and bulwark of any elected representative of the people.
