In the year two thousand and twenty-four, on the tenth day of September, senators met in the Senate chamber in Gitega for the 203rd plenary session of the sixth legislature under the aegis of the Right Honourable Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA, Speaker of the Senate, to consider two items on the agenda, namely:
This session, which saw the participation of 26 senators, began with a prayer at 09:17.
Opening the session, the Senate Speaker first welcomed the Honourable senators present and then gave the floor to Honourable Pacifique NDIHOKUBWAYO to present the report.
At the end of the presentation of the report, the Honourable senators had the opportunity to discuss the challenges observed on the explored sites.
At the RUSUMO FALLS hydroelectric dam, the Honourable senators greatly appreciated the progress of the work which reached a completion rate of 99%, but they raised the concern about the loss of income on the side of Burundi caused by the old REGIDESO distribution network used to transport electricity and the method of payment of the bill which is made in foreign currency for our country, while other countries pay in local currency.
For the other visited sites, the senators called on the Government to be vigilant in order to preserve the interests of the nation in general and the surrounding population in particular.
At the end of the exchange debate, the Honourable senators found that the visits carried out were beneficial, especially since the observations and findings made will serve as material for them when formulating oral questions to be addressed to members of the Government as part of monitoring government action.
Before closing the session, Senate Speaker presented the draft programme of activities to be carried out for the week. The latter was unanimously adopted by the 26 senators present.
The session, which took place in a climate of mutual understanding, was closed with a prayer at 11:30 a.m.
