On Friday, October 15, 2021, the 1st Senate Deputy-Speaker, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye, enhanced with her presence, in the commune Giheta of Gitega province, the ceremonies marking the International Rural Women’s Day whose theme for this year is “Let’s support the efforts of rural women in their development initiatives.”
In her speech, Honourable Ndadaye congratulated Burundian rural women for their role in the households and the country life.
In fact, she recalled that it is the rural woman who takes care of the industrial and food crops that are essential to the population’s life. Honourable Dénise Ndadaye also added that rural women are the pillar of development.
The 1st Senate Deputy-Speaker also indicated that Burundian rural women have already carried out initiatives in order to develop themselves by grouping in cooperatives, small trade and professional occupations.
She mentioned other initiatives that could support the development of women, such as the teaching of modern methods in the field of agriculture, micro-loans, selected seeds, new information and communication technologies, etc.
She closed her speech by advising them to organize visits to exchange experiences and think up bankable development projects.
These ceremonies were also attended by the Minister of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender, Mrs Imelde Sabushimike.
