On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, Speaker of the Senate, received in audience the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Burundi, Dr Jilly Elibariki Maleko.
At the end of this audience, Ambassador Elibariki Maleko announced that she had come to bid farewell to the Speaker of the Senate at the end of her term.
She welcomed the bilateral cooperation which characterizes Burundi and Tanzania. The Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania expressed her gratitude for a prize awarded to her on the occasion of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Independence of Burundi.
Dr. Jilly Elibariki Maleko said that she reminded the Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament that the memoranda of understanding signed between these two countries have been fruitful. She promised that she would entrust her successor with the project to build a railway linking Burundi, the United Republic of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
