Under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Burundi, the First Deputy -Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Denise NDADAYE, and the Second Deputy-Speaker of the Senate, Honuorable Fabrice NKURUNZIZA, along with senators and senior Executives of the Senate of Burundi, participated in the official launch ceremonies of the Civic and Electoral Education Campaign, at the INGOMA stadium in Gitega, on Friday, April 13, 2024.
In his speech, His Excellency the President of the Republic stressed that power emanates from the people through elections. He recalled that the 2020 elections took place satisfactorily thanks to the exchanges between the different candidates, and he promised that those of 2025 will be even better. He then called on the population of voting age to participate massively in these elections in order to consolidate democracy. He also assured that all candidates will receive fair treatment.
Regarding this campaign organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, he underlined its importance for the consolidation of the country’s democratic institutions.
He called on the various authorities to be fully involved so that their successors are truthful, responsible, honest and non-corrupt.
Regarding the media and newspapers, he insisted on their essential role in raising awareness among the population.
As for non-governmental organizations and associations, he indicated that their mission is to encourage the population to register on the electoral lists, to follow the electoral process and to provide constructive advice.
In conclusion, he affirmed that the elections will be well organized, that the country’s institutions will be impartial, that all candidates will be treated fairly, that everyone will have the right to present themselves in accordance with the law, that the country’s authorities will be neutral, that all citizens of voting age will have their identity card and that the elections will take place in peace, security and transparency.
