On Friday, July 23, 2021, the Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, Senate Speaker and Legal Representative of the United Methodist Church of Burundi, joined the Christians of that Church in a prayer crusade organized in Kayero, in Mpinga- Kayove commune of Rutana province, in order to consolidate and safeguard the unity in that church.
That crusade was held from July 23 to 25 and was attended the Christians of that Church from different parts of the country. In his opening address to that crusade, the Right Honourable Sinzohagera praised the Lord for allowing that crusade to take place at a time when the Church is united.
The Senate Speaker called on Burundians in general and Christians in particular, to safeguard peace and security. He invited them to avoid disagreements that could lead to the disruption of their unity and belief.
He took that opportunity to explain that the Senate had recently organized Conferences on the events of 1972 with a view to seeking to know the truth which will bring the Burundians to a true reconciliation.
Moreover, the Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament thanked the Government of Burundi which spares no effort to support the activities of religious denominations, and more particularly those of the United Methodist Church.
He said that Church will invest in the areas of education, health, etc. During the 2nd day, the crusade was marked by a series of testimonies and apologies on the disagreement that characterized the members of that Church in the past.
With that in mind, the Right Honorable Sinzohagera has taken the lead in asking for forgiveness as the Legal Representative of the United Methodist Church of Burundi (EMUBU) on behalf of all who have been steeped in those conflicts. He therefore called on Christians to avoid all kinds of division.
At the end of that crusade, the Speaker of the Senate was delighted with the good progress of that event which allowed the unification of the United Methodist Church of Burundi after the faithful have forgiven each other.
The Right Honourable Sinzohagera has indicated that the time of disagreement within that Church is over. He reassured the faithful that there will be no more divisions within that Church as it enters a new era.
As Legal Representative of EMUBU, he urged every Christian in that Church to no longer align themselves with anyone who seeks to appropriate that Church by targeting sectarian interests or selfish calculations.
