On June 8, 2024, the Bureau of Burundi Senate, accompanied by the Honourable senators, joined other high-rank authorities of the country in the celebration of the National Patriotism Day which coincided with the fourth anniversary of the death of the late President Pierre NKURUNZIZA, Supreme Leader of Patriotism.
The ceremonies took place in Gitega, the political capital of the country. They were enhanced by the presence of the President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE accompanied by his wife.
Several distinguished guests took part in these ceremonies in particular, the Bureau of the National Assembly, deputies, the Vice-President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Ombudsman, Ambassadors, members of the defense and security forces and representatives of different religious denominations.
The ceremonies began with the presentation of the bibliography of the late President Pierre NKURUNZIZA, followed by the laying of wreaths by the presidential family, the family of the late President Pierre Nkurunziza and the representative of the diplomatic and consular corps accredited to Burundi.
The first part of the ceremonies was closed by listening to an extract from the speech delivered by the late Pierre NKURUNZIZA where he called on Burundians to love their country, always fight to safeguard the country independence and cultural values, participate in the community development work and fight for peace and security.
The Senate Bureau also participated in the second part of these ceremonies at the INGOMA stadium in Gitega, and that second part was initially devoted to the presentation of Burundi Vision 2040-2060 by the Bureau of Strategic Studies and Development (BESD).
In the presentation, it was demonstrated that to achieve this Vision, the population living conditions have to be improved, inequalities have to be reduced, and the population has to change their mindset.
In the second time, the activities focused on a moralizing session led by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, for members of the Government and other state executives.
During this session, he challenged all of the participants to work for the interest of the nation, be servants of others and to ensure good management and planning.
