In the company of Senator Joséphine Nyiraneza, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honorable Denise Ndadaye,participates in the African Senates conference, which takes place at the Félix HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY Foundation for Peace Research in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, under the theme: “Idea of Senate and senatorial experiences in Africa”. She also took part in the opening ceremonies of the second ordinary session 2024 of the Senate of Côte d’Ivoire, which preceded this conference.
This conference offers participants an opportunity to discuss issues of common interest to their Chambers, and a framework for exchanges and reflections on their experiences in terms of the organization and operation of senatorial institutions, and aims to enable them to establish an Association of African Senates, with a view to strengthening interparliamentary cooperation.
Generally, the speakers each outline the history of the Senate in their country, outline its functions and missions, while explaining the contours of its creation, as well as its functioning in the bicameral system.
During the interventions, Honorable Joséphine Nyiraneza, who made the presentation, for the Senate of Burundi explained the contours of the creation of this Institution, its composition, its journey, its functions and its missions. She indicated that the Senate of Burundi has prioritized its action in the consolidation of peace, security and development, the protection of human rights, the control of demography and the protection of the environment, while always listening to the population who mandated it.
This senator outlined the future perspective of this Institution, which is mainly illustrated by its vision with the overall objective of contributing to the preservation of the rule of law and the consolidation of peace, for the well-being of the population. She also reported that the Upper House of the Parliament of Burundi has developed its strategic plan, which places it in the perspective of the country’s development vision.
