On Thursday 06 July 2023, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza, held a meeting with communal councillors of Nyabihanga, Ndava and Rusaka in the province Mwaro, to discuss socio-economic development.
Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza called on the inhabitants of that province to cultivate their fields during the dry season and irrigate them in order to implement the government’s programme.
He asked them to set up nurseries of fruit tree seedlings that could be combined with crops, to combat erosion and get plenty of rain.
Honourable Nkurunziza also asked them to give their opinions during the meetings that the Senate will soon be organising to ask the population whether or not article 289 of the Constitution, which provides for ethnic quotas in certain institutions such as the National Assembly, the Senate and the legal domain, should be abolished.
In addition, the 2nd Deputy Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament urged them to keep the area clean and grow coffee trees.
He also called on religious denominations to encourage their followers to get involved in development activities.
On their turn, the participants asked to be guided by the provincial agriculture authorities for the success of their projects.
