The people of Mwaro asked to decide whether or not to abolish the article 289 of the Constitution, which provides for ethnic quotas

On Wednesday 05 July 2023, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza, held a meeting with communal councillors of Bisoro, Kayokwe and Gisozi, in the province Mwaro, to discuss economic development.

Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza called on the population to respond to the government call for all Burundians to cultivate during the dry season by irrigating their fields.

He advised them to prepare tree nurseries and to grow plants that combine with trees to combat erosion.

The 2^nd Deputy Speaker of the Senate asked them to give their opinions, at the appropriate time, in relation to the abolition or resumption of article 289 of the Constitution, which provides for ethnic quotas in some institutions.

He concluded his message by advising them notably to keep their houses clean, fight bush fires, pay taxes, etc.
