On Saturday, January 13, 2024, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Fabrice Nkurunziza, accompanied by a deputy elected in the Bujumbura constituency, joined forces with the population of Rubirizi, Tenga and Gahahe villages, Rubirizi zone, Mutimbuzi commune in Bujumbura province, during tree planting work on the banks of the Gikoma River.
Addressing the participants in this work, Honourable Nkurunziza called on the population of this province to continue to preserve peace and security, and to tackle various development works, particularly those in the agro-pastoral field to achieve Burundi’s development objectives; Burundi, an emerging country by 2040, and a developed one by 2060. He urged them to protect the environment, in particular by maintaining the trees they had just planted, and compliance with urbanization standards during construction.
The Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate asked the ministry in charge of the environment to prepare for the protection of the banks of the Gikoma River, as well as other watercourses whose banks are at risk.
