On Sunday, January 7, 2024, the Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, Senate Speaker and Legal Representative of the United Methodist Church in Burundi, accompanied by his wife, a senator elected in the constituency of Ruyigi, as well as some administrative officials from this province, joined the faithful of the parish church of Buhonga, located in the district of Kinyinya, in the province of Ruyigi. They gathered to commemorate the 60th anniversary of this parish and inaugurate a new church.
These ceremonies were organized around the theme of verses of Hebrews 13:7 and 2 Chronicles 7:16. The Right Honourable Sinzohagera encouraged the population of Ruyigi to invest in various works, particularly in the fields of agriculture and livestock, in order to promote their development.
He particularly called on young people, especially young girls, to continue their studies and avoid early marriage. The Senate Speaker also appealed to Church leaders to establish sewing workshops in their respective districts to contribute to the local economy. Based on sacred scriptures, such as 2 Chronicles 7:16-22, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 and the Gospel according to Saint Matthew 21:12-13, he expressed the wish that the year 2024 should be for the faithful of that Church a period of repentance, holiness and kindness. He urged them to avoid sin, such as corruption and adultery.
The Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament also advised them to live according to the word of God, cultivate a pure heart, be characterized by humility and be guided by the Holy Spirit.
