Burundian Parliament meeting in congress, the Prime Minister, Mr. Gervais Ndirakobuca, presented the Government’s annual action plan for the fiscal year 2022-2023, Friday, December 16, 2022.
Before the presentation, Mr. Ndirakobuca indicated that there has been a delay in the implementation of this Action Plan, following the new Government policy in relation to the “Programme Budget”.
The Prime Minister indicated that in the political field, so many activities are planned such as the modernization of public services (digitalization of civil status) and the promotion of community development (villagization and support for hill cooperative projects).
”The Government will improve the health of the population, especially mothers and children,” he insisted, specifying that it is within this framework that communal hospitals will be equipped, for example, with medical and non-medical ambulances.
In the legal field, Mr. Ndirakobuca said that capacity building sessions will be organized for new hill notables to help them perform their daily tasks.
According to him, it is also planned to decongest prisons and popularize legal texts.
He also indicated that at the level of the security sector, the capacity building of the police and the prevention of risks related to disasters are programmed.
As for the economic field, the Prime Minister revealed examples of activities which are on the agenda, in this case the reduction of public debt, the development and modernization of road infrastructures, the increase in supplying drinking water, the electrification of the country’s centres and the revitalization of trade in the field of exports.
Regarding the education sector, Mr. Ndirakobuca indicated that there are plans to strengthen the education system in order to improve the quality of education. “We are also going to support the centres that welcome street children to provide them with good support,” he added.
During the questions addressed to the Prime Minister, parliamentarians notably requested that there be an exception for the communes in the implementation of the Programme Budget, the availability of the Action Plan in time, to be able to complete it or amendment and funding of projects within a reasonable time by donors.
