July 23, 2021On Wednesday, June 23, 2021, the Speaker of the Senate, Rt. Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, received in audience the Representative of UNICEF in Burundi, Mr. John Egbe Agbor, who came for a courtesy visit and to present him the activities carried out by this international organization of which Burundi is a member.
During their meeting, the Right Honourable Sinzohagera presented the programme initiated since the previous legislature. That aimed at raising awareness to fight against pregnancy in schools, which requires support from partners like UNICEF. Thus, the Representative of the UNICEF in Burundi promised that technical teams will be able to work with the Senate executives, to contribute in the fighting against pregnancies in schools.
Mr. Agbor welcomed the involvement of Burundi Government in the enlargement of school canteens since in the general budget of the State, there is a substantial budget allocated to this activity.
Finally, the Senate Speaker wished that UNICEF could contribute so that this programme should cover the whole national territory
